I'm pretty sure there will be no version 9

New versions used to come out every 2-3 years. It's been over 5 years since R8. Now, Lotusphere is no more...it's just a program within IBM Connect, and I doubt that will last more than a few years as Domino continues to dwindle. The Lotus brand simply has no significance. There are no Lotus products with any market penetration.

Notes isn't dying anymore...it's dead, and Lotus is a dead brand. The only Lotus Notes jobs out there seem to be conversions to other systems. The only reason it's still around is that IBM has difficulty letting go. I hear you can still buy specialized versions of OS/2...
